Depression: Defining it and defeating it By: Dr. Anoop Agarwal

Depression, in its simplest form, can be described as a state of low mood and aversion to any activity, that can have a negative effect on one’s thoughts, feelings and physical well-being. Depressed people feel sad, anxious, empty, hopeless, worried, helpless, worthless, guilty, irritable, hurt or restless. They lose interest in activities that were once pleasurable.

I believe depression is a normal reaction to certain life events and is a mental state which primarily arises due to non-fulfillment of our desires. What we wish is transformed by our thoughts into desires, to fulfill which, we sometimes tend to act beyond our resources or powers. The fact is, while we strongly wish and expect the desire to be fulfilled, there lies an equal possibility that it might not be fulfilled.

Success gives us happiness but failure leads us to depression, as we don’t accept defeat, loss or suffering. In such situations, we put the blame on others and end up suppressing our emotions without making an effort to find the root cause.

Our brain is responsible for our physical and mental well-being. It sends waves - namely alpha, beta and delta - which regulates our body, stimulates our reflexes, and makes us feel relaxed and content. In those cases where things do not happen according to our liking, we get irritated, and the level of beta waves increases above 26Hz and we experience an explosion of stress.

Depression distorts the way we see ourselves, our life, and those around us. People who suffer from depression usually see everything with a more negative attitude.

Defining it
So, can we control this state? Yes, by practicing acceptance of new ideas, we have the potential to expand our thoughts and enrich our life. We often find it difficult to follow this as we feel that acceptance of new ideas will negate our existing beliefs. Instead, if we choose to see a new idea as an interesting opportunity, we can overcome our pseudo judgments and explore new concepts with an attitude which is full of curiosity and excitement. If we don't change, we don't grow. If we don't grow, we aren't really living. By bringing this change, one can successfully change the environment around oneself.

Knowing the root cause of your problem is the first step towards healthy and blissful living. Consciously releasing the burdens of the past will free your mind and will help you embrace the present with greater joy and excitement. Choosing to consciously let go of old emotional baggage can help one move forward in life and develop an ability to focus more on creating a satisfying present.

Defeating it
Looking back at my experience, I recommend use of natural crystals and minerals, carefully selected on the basis of their characteristics, to treat a wide range of stress-related disorders. This approach is based on the belief that our body has an energy field which can be influenced by natural crystals.

Anxiety, depression, lethargy and stress can be easily cured with the use of crystals. Crystal therapy creates a great sense of relaxation and well-being. It alleviates tension and stress, and aids in bringing relief on the mental, emotional and physical plane. With an inspired focus, we can easily let go of what no longer serves us.
